Into Wild Places.

coldSTONE Mountain Works designs and delivers mountain journeys where skills are developed through real experience in serious terrain.

Journeys are shaped by landscape, weather and decision-making — not predefined outcomes. Some are guided expeditions, some focus on capability-building, and others are structured independent traverses. Each is deliberately designed and organised to move well through demanding and beautiful ground.

What We Do

Our work spans the UK’s mountains, ridges and coastal cliffs, with longer journeys extending into alpine and more committing terrain.

Journeys may involve:

  • Long mountain days and classic ridgelines
  • Technical scrambling and steep ground
  • Multi-day travel through remote landscapes
  • Coastal and sea cliff terrain where judgement is constant

Logistics are arranged where appropriate — whether transport, accommodation or route documentation — so that focus remains on the terrain itself.

The coldSTONE Approach

Learning happens on the move.

Movement, navigation and judgement are not treated as separate disciplines. They are experienced together, shaped by the landscape and the conditions of the day.

Journeys unfold through terrain, weather and decision-making in real time — whether guided, instructional or independent in character.

The value of a journey isn’t found in distance or grade alone, but in the depth of experience — what is learned, felt and gained along the way.

Who It’s For

coldSTONE is for people who value:

  • Small groups
  • Thoughtful leadership
  • Real terrain, not rehearsed environments
  • Clear structure without spectacle

Whether foundational, expeditionary, or independent in character, journeys are shaped around the people taking part and the realities of the day.
